Faberrebe
White variety - Faberrebe
- General: With the crossing of Müller-Thurgau and Chardonnay, Georg Scheu created a versatile white wine variety for fruity and fresh wines at the Landesanstalt für Rebenzüchtung Alzey in 1929. The cultivation of the variety is almost entirely limited to Germany and has almost fallen into oblivion here as well. Some farms in Rheinhessen are giving the variety a new image and thus a new marketing opportunity with the "Relaunch F" initiative founded in 2006.
- Cluster: The medium-sized grapes are long, cylindrical and relatively tightly packed. The berries are of medium size, slightly oval and green. In terms of taste, the variety presents itself juicy, sweet and discreetly fruity. The ripeness lies between Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner. In good years, late harvest qualities are not excluded.
- Wine: Faber wines are elegant and delicately fruity with a subtle hint of nutmeg and pleasant acidity and medium body and extracts.
- Cultivation: When selecting a site, the variety benefits from a well-aerated location, as it is susceptible to oidium. The magnesium supply should also be ensured to prevent stem rot. Weak-growing with high stinginess, strong-growing rootstocks such as 125 AA or 5BB are to be preferred due to the weak growth.
